First Week College Football Thoughts

1) Appalachian State over Michigan is definitively the biggest upset in college football history. No I-AA/FCS team has ever beat a team in the AP Top 25. Also, in their past 2 years as I-AA champions, Appy State has lost to Kansas and North Carolina State, so this should put the win AT Michigan in perspective.

2) Notre Dame needs to hire Forrest Gump or Rudy to cut their grass because it's obvious the Fighting Irish are keeping their grass tall to counter their lack of team speed.

3) Vanderbilt, overall, looked pretty good tonight. Earl Bennett set a school record with 223 yards on 13 catches, had 3 TDs, and 64 yards returning punts. Chris Nickson was good, and the defense was good in the second half. I think the coaching staff was trying to stay vanilla in the first half to not show too much for Alabama, but that kind of went out the door and they adjusted at half time. We need better production from the running game and for George Smith and Sean Walker to become more involved.
